About Schleis

Schleis Floor Covering was founded over 50 years ago, in 1974, by Bill Schleis. As a union flooring installer himself, he knew what it took to deliver high quality projects in the most efficient manner. He demanded that his installers deliver quality, efficiency, and professionalism. We go to work each day driven by these core values.

Our History
70's
  • Schleis Floor Covering is founded by Bill Schleis in 1974. He installs flooring alone working out of his home.
  • His first van is a brand-new baby blue Dodge.
  • Dennis Smith is hired as Bill’s first installer in 1977. He still works part time for the company today.
  • By the end of the decade a crew of four installers works on residential and small commercial projects.
Our History
80's
  • In 1980, Schleis Floor Covering buys a warehouse at 1701 Morrow Street in East Green Bay.
  • Carpet Concepts retail showroom store opens in 1984 on Main Street in East Green Bay. The company can now sell flooring, still focusing mainly on residential projects.
  • In 1985, Bill hires Kevin Poehls as Controller, the only employee inducted into the company's hall of fame.
  • The company completes its first two retail store projects, new Shopko Stores in Green Bay and Kimberly, WI.
  • As Shopko expands throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest, the company follows and grows. Many union commercial installers are hired to keep up with the growth.
Our History
90's
  • Walmart enters the Midwest market. SFC completes hundreds of Walmart VCT and carpet projects as the chain expands.
  • Schleis Floor Covering builds a 12,000 sf warehouse and office on Manitowoc Road in Bellevue, WI to keep up with growth.
  • Bill hires three project managers and the installation crew is now over 25 union installers.
  • With new office staff, the company expands into office and medical projects.
  • In 1994, we complete our first furniture lift job at Kimberly Clark in Neenah, WI. This 14,000 sy project is believed to be the first lift job performed in Wisconsin. We redid the same project with new carpet tile in 2008.
  • In 1998, the company completes its first moisture remediation project at a Circuit City remodel in Green Bay, WI.
Our History
2000's
  • In the early 2000’s SFC expands into performing Target retail store installations throughout the Midwest.
  • As many retail stores in the Midwest were built in the 80’s and 90’s, SFC begins to focus more on remodel projects. SFC purchases its first ride-on demo machine in 2000 and its first planetary grinder in 2004.
  • The company’s last residential store, Schleis Carpet Outlets closes in 2001. This allows SFC to focus strictly on commercial projects.
  • After doing many Kohls projects with carpet and VCT, the company was persuaded to add ceramic installation to its offerings when Kohls changed from VCT to porcelain aisleways.
  • In 2009, SFC completes its first polished concrete project for Kohls, in West Bend, WI. The project included 25,000 sf of polishing.
Our History
2010 - present
  • In 2011, the company purchases a 40,000-sf warehouse and office at its current headquarter location on Glory Road in Green Bay, WI.
  • SFC began performing polishing projects for JCPenney in 2012.
  • In 2014, SFC completes the largest hospital project in its history. The project was a 268,000-sf remodel of the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, WI, taking 1.5 years to complete.
  • To date, we have completed polishing projects for Kohls across the states of WI, MI and MN.
  • The first large format Target polishing project, the Madison Hilldale remodel, was completed in 2022. This was an 80,000 sf Super Target polishing job.
  • SFC’s strong relationship with Target continues to this day. We have completed hundreds of different projects for the chain, remodel, and new construction, nationwide. Projects range from large format polished concrete to resilient and carpet tile installations.
